Family Support Service

Image: FamilyThe centres also offer a family support service to families on a 1 to 1 basis within the family home, for support around behaviour and routines, debt and money advice, signposting to other services, weaning and healthy lifestyles, keeping families safe, breastfeeding support, and support with being or becoming a parent.

Volunteers are a huge part of the work of Children’s Centres, and a variety of roles are available. These include breastfeeding peer supporters, perinatal befrienders, administration volunteers, supporting in sessions, meet and greeting families and being a voice for other parents living in the local area.

The centre encourages parents, children and extended family members to have a say regarding the work that Children’s Centres provide. The centre has regular Parent Forum and Local Advisory Group Meetings, which parents and different services attend. This gives families a chance to speak to centre staff, make suggestions, share ideas and challenge the centre service when needed.
